One of my lower right Molars has broken At first one half broke off and now few weeks later the other half has gone. All whats left is a few bits of tooth
Is this serious? From the online research I've done I think I'll need a 'crown'. What does this entail? How long is the procedure? Will I still be able to chew from this side?
Does the tooth have a root canel? Then they maybe able to crown it with a post . All 4 of my front top teeth the bitting ones are crowned and they work great, now I wouldn't bit into a candy apple with them but other than that I really don't notice a difference. Good luck.
The whole tooth is gone and just a few side bits are remaining, so I suppose the root canal is still there perhaps. When the tooth broke the actual roots didn't come out.
What now?

they look great nobody even knows they are crowns, and they are my top front teeth the ones people see, but you should go to the dentist right away I waited on one of my molars when it cracked and broke and ended up with getting it pulled due to it was to late to root canel.
You need to get to a dentist right away. It sounds as if that tooth was already badly decayed for it to break like that. The dentist will have to determine if there's enough (healthy) structure left there to attach a crown or do some other type of restoration. That's really the key.
Most importantly, don't wait around to make your appointment. These things only get worse with time and a broken decayed tooth like that is a nasty abcess waiting to happen.
