Abcessed Tooth Or What Else? Geezzz - Dental Health Message Board

Hello everyone

! Last Thursday, I went to the dentist in HORRIBLE pain

. They took x-rays and determined I had an abcessed tooth that was affecting my sinus cavaties and that that was what was causing all the pain in jaw and ear and so on. It started off as a knot on my gum line...then went up and beside my nose is hard under the skin. Well, my dentist put me on the antibiotic chladinomycin(misp?), anyways, its now Wednesday the 26th of May and I woke up this morning, and the whole left side of my face was severely swollen and when I swallow, it doesn't hurt to swallow, but it feels like something is constricting my throat. I took some benadryl and its a little better...I also stopped the antibiotic. I have taken different variations of mycin...antibiotics and have never had a reaction to any. I amalso a cancer survivor of 6 mos...from stage 3c uterine cancer....I'mjust hoping this doen't have something to do with that. Any advice would be helpful

What you describe sounds like a complication of your treatment and may indicate the abscess does not respond well to the antiobiotics, so the infection may have worsened. Did you undergo a root canal treatment in the abscessed tooth yet?!

I suggest you consult with your dentist as soon as possible. Mistreated abscesses can become serious.

It's best to make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possilble. I agree. I have an abscess right not and I'm in horrible pain. Of course, I can't go to the dentist until Monday and it's a Sunday. I'm making an appointment and I'm gonna try to squeeze in to get my root canal done on that day. I tried taking antibiotics. Sometimes the pain will subside. This is not always the case.
