Question Why is my lower lip is numb?

One of the biggest causes of numbness in the lower lip is extracting wisdom teeth. Well, I haven't had that done, so I'm stumped. When I woke up 5 days ago, I realized part of my lower lip was numb? I couldn't imagine what the problem was. I figured it would go away with time. Well, it hasn't and it has seemed to cover more area of my lower lip. Please tell me what you think. I've researched causes for this, but have been unable to find anything. I went to the doctor yesterday and he couldn't figure out what the problem was. He said it could be because I drank heavily the night before and depleted myself of vitamin B. Does that sound logical? Someone please help.

Re: Why is my lower lip is numb?

numbness in the lower lip is associated with damage to the inferior dental nerve, that runs under bottom back teeth. if the nerve is irritated, it can make the lip go numb.

Re: Why is my lower lip is numb?

What are some ways that it could get irritated? Do you think it could be from a lack of vitamin B?

Re: Why is my lower lip is numb?

im not sure about the vitamin b deficiency - the doctor would be able to advise you better on that one.
however with regard to the inferior dental nerve, i remember that after some dental treatment years ago (extraction), i had a numb lower lip for months - and the dentist thought that some infection still in the jawbone, was irritating the inferior dental nerve.
have you got any infected teeth ? infected tooth roots in the upper teeth can cause sinus pain, so infected tooth roots in the lower teeth could possibly traumatize the inferior dental nerve.

no, nothing like that. I just think my doctor is a quack sometimes. I wish I could find someone with the same problem.
