Excrutiating Pain in Mouth

I have electric shock type pain in my two back teeth whenever I eat cold or spicy foods like mustard, vinegar, etc. I really don't know if the pain is in my gum or teeth.

My dentist says there is nothing wrong according to his exam and the
x-rays. He tried plastic bonding but it didn't work.

I haven't been to the dentist in over a year because when i go for a cleaning the hygenist will not ask the dentist to give me novacaine in that area, and
she doesn't clean the area very well because she is afraid to cause pain. This has happened two years in a row, I can't understand why she won't ask him to give me the shot when I requested it.

The hygenist secretly gave me a few samples of a blue gel (I forgot the name of it, I think it was Phos something) to try on my gum, it does work to stop the pain when I eat, but she told me the dentist told her not to give it to the patients because it's a prescription.

I am at the end of my rope suffering with this pain for so long.

Any advice would be deeply appreicated.

Thanks so much!

Re: Excrutiating Pain in Mouth

Do you have two types of fillings at the lower and upper jaws? This may explain the "electric shock" sensation.

As for the pain you are experiencing, perhaps it may be due to a gum disease, tooth infection or exposed teeth (with faded enamel).

The exact cause should be disclosed and addressed by a qualified dentist, in order for the problem to be treated efficiently. Meanwhile you may want to avoid foods that cause or aggravate your pain.

Good luck
