Laughing Gas or Xanax for Surgery?

Hi,

Just wondering if the "laughing Gas" would be better to take for the gum grafting more then the xanax for anxiety? Dr. said would not be able to do both. Any info or experience with these, would be appreciated!

Re: Laughing Gas or Xanax for Surgery?

I think that a good part of it depends on you. Xanax will not sedate you as much - you will be extremely aware of what is going on, but you won't care much. So many people live there lives on Xanax and say it is great - they just don't freak out like they used to. I have a very good friend who takes it for panic attacks at relatively high doses when she is having an attack and it works well. The gas on the other hand will sedate you more and is easier to control. Additionally, once the gas is turned off, within a few minutes you are perfectly fine, which is nice. I have found that the xanax stays in my system too long, which I personally don't like. The plus side is, if you are going to stress out right before your appointment, the xanax will relieve this whereas you have to wait until they get ready to start for gas. The gas can be adjusted to the precise level you need, as you need it. I have known one or two people who just weren't nearly as relaxed as they wanted to be with Xanax and found that with the gas the control over it was so much better. So basically, it just depends on what YOU think you need - my vote is for the gas for a basic gum grafting... But it fits my needs the best.

Re: Laughing Gas or Xanax for Surgery?

Thanks Kikki, when I called the office they said I can take a little of xanax, and then the gas. The worst part for me is right before the surgery, and perhaps the after affects. I agree I have taken xanax before and it doesn't seem to last, and I need the max. dose, and it seems they can control the gas to meet your needs. Thanks, I appreciate your info!
