Survived Surgery

Friday went ok I guess. He had problems getting the iv in so know the back of my hand is really swollen and his pager is not working.. Does anyone know whether I should put Ice or heat on it.. He could not get my bottom partial or top retainer to go in because I swelled to quickly.. He sent the bottom partial home w/ me but told my husband he would put my retainer in when I came back in a week to have the stitches out.. alot of my back teeth were broken off to the roots and I feel like he may have missed 2 teeth is this possible.. I pray it isn't .. i paid alot of money to get it all done at once.. I have not had much pain at all.. Advil has done the job.. my lips hurt .. Both corners are cracked.. I have several filling that are whiter than my teeth but he is not going to let me bleach the top until the retainer doesn it's job .. I tried to put my bottom partial in awhile ago but one of my top teeth don't fit against the bottom partail right feels like if i tried to bite something it could crack it.. Am i suppose to be keeping my cast base partial in water... does anyone have any words of encouragement.

Re: Survived Surgery

Congrats on being through your surgery - really, you sound like you are right on track. I would ice your hand. And I really don't think he missed any teeth - once you are finished healing it will feel more normal. As for the partial, because of the swelling, it probably doesn't fit quite right, so as long as it feels wrong, I wouldn't wear it. Maybe see if you can dip by his office to get him to look at it? But I maybe would keep trying it and getting used to the feel of it. It is a big change you have to adapt to.

You are doing just fine! I know that things seem a little rough right now, but in a couple of weeks, it will have made a 180 degree about face and you will feel much more confident about it all!

Cool Re: Survived Surgery

Hi..
Glad you made it thru ok and finally got it done, and that you aren't in alot of pain...They also had trouble getting a vein to start my IV, and that actually hurt worse than my mouth after! lol They told me to ice it and it did feel better and didnt get as swollen and bruised as the first time, when I didnt ice it....
Hope you are feeling better soon....

Re: Survived Surgery

Glad to hear that everything went well.I'm sure that he didn't miss any teeth, and things will feel strange for awhile, but each day it will get better and better. Sorry, but I don't know anything about differant kinds of partials, all I know is that I soak my dentures in water every night, and my husband saoks his partial in water also. Don't know about a cast base partial.Call your dentist and ask them.Glad to hear that your doing fine.

Re: Survived Surgery

Went in to dentist.. He did accidentally leave 2 roots.. He kept apologizing.. He said I had been fighting the iv sedation and was trying to pull the iv out when he was finishing up on one.. I know he felt bad and I felt bad for being so bad.. He said that they had to use so much meds to put me out that my veins were inflamed. The swelling finally went down yesterday but my arm is still very tender.. I am having to take aspirin and wet hot compresses.. I had 12 extractions and my arm had hurt the worst of it all.. I had my spring retainer put in yesterday and just took them out for breakfast and my good teeth are now hurting.. He got my partial adjusted but one of the roots is under it so I will probably not wear it while eating because i don't want to get the root aggravated.. I had the beginnings of dry socket in one of the extractions but thank God he packed it and I had not had pain yet in it.. I go back next week to get the 2 roots out.. I heard him tell the nurse to allow him 40 mins. on it.. He told me to take 2 valium before coming to this appt... He is just going to do novacaine and said it wasn't going to be much to it.. Does that mean I have to start all over w/ the straw and no caffiene and soup thing.. Oh well.. I guess I cant fix 32 years of bad teeth in four hours.. Wish me luck..
