What types of sugars can I eat till my extraction??? - Dental Health Message Board

I really need help until I can get to see a different dentist. I've had both throbbing and jabbing pains in my lower right tooth area. Two weeks ago I saw a dentist as an emergency, he gave me antibiotics and pain meds and had me come back in a week. After showing him the 2 molars (first and second molar) that were damaged and needed to be removed, he removed the first molar and the wisdom tooth on the upper jaw instead. Thinking that he'd solved my problem, I tried to resume my normal diet. Within 2 days, I thought I could at least be able to eat something with chocolate in it... BIG mistake!!!! Those sharp pains came back, so now I"m avoiding all sugars other than fruit sugar, and still on mostly soft foods. I've gotten on a "cancellation list" to see another dentist to do something with that 2nd molar, until then, please tell me what I can and cannot eat to avoid having any more dental pain. I'd like to have this problem solved before my son's 7th birthday so I can eat cake with him. I"d appreciate any advice you can give me. I just had plain vanilla ice cream, and have had no pain whatsoever. This is very odd to me, I thought all these sugars were the same.

Unfortunately, the pain will probably be hit or miss depending on how irritated the tooth is at the moment. The best thing you can do is try to avoid anything wiht granulated sugar in it until you have your tooth fixed. This is just the nature of sensitivities caused by infection and cracks and such - I know that's not what you wanted to hear though! If you need to eat cake, eat it carefully and on the opposite side - but try not to miss your kid's cake! Sometimes medications for tooth pain can be used to help - like maybe before you eat the cake. Good luck getting in with getting in with the other dentist... I know how frustrated you must be!

The worst part is, the first dentist should've done whatever he needed to do while I was there, not take out a tooth that didn't need to be taken out, then say nothing about one of the teeth that were actually bothering me! So, now I"m on a "cancellation" list to get in to see another dentist in this area, a woman who also deals with kids (my son will see her if I like her). I need to have something done, this is affecting my everyday life. Even brushing anywhere near that side of my mouth will make me ache.

I'd much rather save this molar than pull it, so I don't wear down all the molars on the left side... but if pulling it is easier, so be it!
