question about dental extractions - Dental Health Message Board

I havent been to see a local dentist in several years, mainly because of neglect and anxiety of going to a dentist and have two upper teeth whitch the crowns have rotted off to the gumline, Ive come to the conclusion that its either go to the dentist now or have my dental health become worse

my question is, because there really isnt a tooth crown anymore, is a root extraction my only choice now for the two missing teeth? or is another option available for this situation
also can this be done with local anesthesia and not general anesthesia?

I guess it will depend how badly the teeth are damaged as to whether they can be repaired or not. I'm certain that you would be able to have any work done with a local anaesthetic.

why I assumed it would require extractions is because the entire crown is gone to the gumline, but the tooth roots are there
has there ever been a case where a similar decayed tooth is saved?

just to keep the existing teeth in line and not have a space between the teeth which causes more dental problems later without getting a cosmetic implant

It is difficult to tell without seeing a dentist but i had a root canal done on a tooth which had several big fillings over the years leaving not much tooth. Then about 1/3 of what was left cracked off after the root canal. I was sure they would have to pull the leftovers after all that work and money spent but the dentist was able to build up the bits that were left and will be crowning it with a manmade crown.

They can save teeth many times that look unsaveable, I think the general rule is 1.5 mm of tooth above the gums and 1.5mm below the gums.
