Were you awake during wisdom tooth surgery? - Dental Health Message Board

Do you remember anything from your wisdom tooth extraction? Meaning, were you awake at all during the procedure? If you were, what kind of sedation did you have? Thanks in advance.

If you were awake, they probably just freeze your mouth. If your not awake, obviously they put u under using whatever it's called and they freeze it. They are more gentle when you are awake, but I can't stand dental work, so I got put to sleep.

I was awake for mine. I had two taken out when I was 19 and the other two removed when I was 25. It was a cost issue for me. The oral surgeon back home only charged $70 and didn't believe in getting an anesthesiologist to come in and put you out; however, it was real common to put people out where I live now and I couldn't get a clear answer on cost -- anywhere from $300-1000.

Oral surgeon numbed me with novacaine from my collarbone to my forehead -- couldn't feel a thing. Didn't hurt -- sound was kinda creepy, but I was in and out in 10 minutes. Back home in front of the tv with a bunch of icepacks on my face.

I had all 4 of mine out at one time. Mine were all impacted and they were so bad my jaw bone had to be drilled into to get them out. I had shots of novacaine put in so it left me completely numb. I also had a mask over my nose and mouth the provided me with a constant flow of nitrous oxide (laughing gas). This made me calm down while they were doing the surgery. I also got to look outside and listen to headphones.

I was awake when I had mine taken out. My dentist did 2 at a time. He said doing 4 at a time is to much stress on your bone structure, thatis why people bruise so bad. I had no bruising at all and you could only see a small amount of swelling on the day I had it done. I just received shots in my mouth like you would to have a filing. My wisdom teeth had not come in at all so the gums had to be completely split open. I had air pockets around all my wisdom teeth and there was no way they would have ever come in, I also had infection in the air pockets. When I had the last two removed I was 6 months pregnant. They still did the shots but not as many as the first time. I actually recovered a lot faster the second time. I ate fried chicken and went to the local fair that night and ate cotton candy! Make sure you are comfortable with your dentist. That is the most important thing.
