Disciplined ortho - Dental Health Message Board

I have started my orthodontic treatment (invisalign) with an orthodontist. Then I found out that he has been diciplined on several cases for malpractice & using non-liscensed assistants. I am very concerned, because my case is not that easy.

I blamed myself for not doing my homework very well. At the same time, can I changed to another ortho and get my money back?

I would contact a new ortho for a consultation. Tell him that you are currently under treatment with Doctor A, have heard of Dr. A's legal problems and what should your course of action be.

Having a lawsuit filed against him is not necessarily proof that the guy is a bad dentist. Dr. B would know if Dr. A's a good dentist or just ran up against a nutty patient.

Thank you Art_930. My primary concern is my treatment. I am afraid that the ortho Dr. A makes my teeth worse since his legal problems were on adult patients, I am so afraid I might be another victim.
You're right, I'd consult with aother ortho Dr. B to see what he/she says. Should I show Dr. B my treatment plan (I dont' have a copy)? I should bring x-rays etc? What else do I need to bring?

I would bring whatever you have. Make an appointment for a consultation only, and have a regular conversation with him stating your concerns. Dr. B cannot say that Dr A is a quack, but you will get some sort of hesitant feedback.

Your other course of action is to go to Dr. A and tell him of your concerns. See how he answers the question. Does he get defensive? Does he explain exactly what happened? Your gut feelings will tell you a lot.
