My new dentist assured me he would not let me ingest any of the old filling. However, when I left his office 2 days ago I found several pieces in my mouth. He did not use a dental dam. I am very disappointed with my choice of dentist altho in my area we have no choices and I am not well enough to go out of town for dental care. I have not been able to chew on the tooth or have cool water on it because of the quicky nerve pain I get when I try. I think the bite is ok ...and I am wondering if this should get better in time??? I have now read that the composite material sometimes reacts this way if a "self etching" primer is not used. I have no idea what was used they could tell us anything and we wouldn't know the difference and I am leary about going back to this dentist.

Sorry this is so long but I have waited so long to be able to start having my amalgams replaced and then I have nothing but trouble from the composite filling. Thanks for your help

It's probably normal to have some sensitivity in a newly filled tooth. I know that when I had composite fillings put in, my teeth had a little pain for about a week but it went away.

I had a cavity drilled then filled 4 days ago it hurt that night. Now 4 days later it feels ok but is sensitive to cold. I believe this is normal, as I've mentioned it to a few people and they experienced the same. I hope within 10 days or so it should be fine. Also they are a very highly recommendd dentist group and even when I rinsed when I got home there were pieces of the filling in my mouth, completely normal I assume.
