intentional replantation - Dental Health Message Board

I had a root canal several years ago that's apparently leaking from the base somewhere causing a bump in my gums. Dentist has told me there are two basic options: dental implant or intentional replantation. Both require extracting the tooth as the first step and iff it comes out clean (1 piece) and they dont notice any cracks, they will clean up the base, and stick my tooth back in right away so it heals with my gums.

Anyone have this procedure? Results? Comments?

Hi, you must not be in the US, I do know they do that procedure (re-implant your natural tooth) they do that process in Europe (in France in particular) and my cousin had it done for her two bottom front teeth over there in France, but I have never heard of any dentist doing this procedure here in the US. By the way, she had it done about 3 yrs ago, and still has these two teeth in working condition. I was a little amazed, and talked to my US dentist here, and he had never heard of this . I have implants, and they work fine. Marti

Anyway, I AM in the US -- New York! And yes, the dentist mentioned this was not a common procedure AND it's totally not covered by my insurance.

But considering it's the same first step towards extraction, it's worth a shot to keep my natural tooth.
