Sounds like it's impacted and you will probably need an extraction.

Re: wisdom tooth, gum, muscle pain and throbbing

Wisdom teeth usually come in when a person is between the ages of 16 and 25 years old but they are not good for oral health if they start growing in at a slant or be 'impacted'. When wisdom teeth are impacted, they are actually "trapped" in the jawbone and gums. Wisdom teeth become impacted because there is not enough room for them to grow in your mouth properly.

Some of the most common symptoms of impacted wisdom teeth are:

pain when biting
pain when opening the mough
swelling in the gum
bad breath (halitosis)
jaw stiffness
an unpleasant taste in the mouth

If impacted wisdom teeth aren't removed they can crowd other teeth out of position, damage nearby teeth, become infected , develop tumors, develop cysts, and decay.

Some people have light sedation for a wisdom tooth removal, others do not.

Your tooth may NOT be impacted, but you should definitely see your dentist who will take a look as to why you are in pain.

Re: wisdom tooth, gum, muscle pain and throbbing

Apriltones,

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted at the same time when I was 22. They were all impacted and not coming through properly. Because the dentist did all 4 at once, I opted for light sedation, so I was "out" and didn't feel a thing. I simply woke up and was told it's over.

Re: wisdom tooth, gum, muscle pain and throbbing

A few months ago, the dentist said you might need them out. Now, a few months later, at least one of them is causing you pain You should go see him and see what he has to say now. If your glands are sore/ swollen on that side, you may have some infection so it's better to deal with this sooner rather than later.
If it's of any help, I don't know ANYONE personally who still has their wisdom teeth!!!!
It is very common to have problems with them and have to have one or all extracted.

You don't have to have this procedure done in hospital (unless things are very different there than here in the USA) It can be done in the dentist's office.

April, try to stop worrying!!!

Re: wisdom tooth, gum, muscle pain and throbbing

Yes, MRSA exists here too. In fact, I read somewhere that the UK has the second highest rate of MRSA infection in Europe, (not sure who has the highest!) yet higher rates are reported in the USA and Japan.

There are flurries of news items that hit the press and tv here from time to time, then disappear. Right now it's not much in the news.

I certainly wouldn't avoid a necessary hospital procedure based on the unlikely "possibility" of contracting this particular resistant staph infection.

Resistant it is, but most of the time not lethal.
