Pain due to normal teething process? - Dental Health Message Board

Hi everyone Im new to these boards. Im 22 and I already have one of my wisdom teeth come through it came through when I was 18 with no problems and its still doing ok. But in the past few weeks my bottom left wisdom tooth has started to come through, but it hasnt protruded as yet.
The gum around the wisdom tooth is a fair bit sore but not swollen much. The pain is just in the gum, not in any of my teeth. Ive been getting pain in my left ear too. But I keep prodding the gum with my tongue(a very annoying habbit)
My question is, is the soreness and ear pain due to the wisdom tooth coming through and it should be expected or am I causing the pain? How much pain should I expect? As I never had any pain from my other wisdom tooth.

Im asking on here as Im petrified of dentists, Ive been this way since I was a child and I just need to know how much pain should I expect from a normal growth, And if alot of pain means a trip to the dentist.

Well, I am 25 and 3 of my wisdoms are still in my mouth. I had the upper right pulled by my regular dentist, but have to get the other three surgically removed. (Im hating the whole dental thing right now-I just had a molar pulled last week, still having pain from that one!) Now Monday, I have to go in to the oral surgeon to see how much its gonna cost me to get them out. Anyway, you mentioned an earache. I woke up with that this morning. It goes from the left side of my throat up to my ear. Please have your teeth looked at by a dentist! A friend of mine had an abcessed tooth, which was causing a minor earache. She was driving down the road, and all of this fluid started coming from her ear. She went to the ER, and her eardum had ruptured because of her tooth. So its better safe than sorry. Thats why Im going in. Im learning that your teeth can cause you a lot of pain. So Id advise you to get them all out (wisdoms) before they start hurting!!

i had two impacted teeth and two surgicals. they came in for about 4 years. one time, the gum around my tooth was REALLY hurting. so, instead of the dentist, i went to the doc (they dont have pliers).

it could be infected. the doc can give you antibiotics to take care of it if you want to avoid the dentist.
