Ok on may 16 i am getting all four of my wisdom teeth taken out. i have never had surgery before so can someone explain to me EXACTLY what its like? the needle, the surgery and afterwards? the doctor told me by looking at my x-ray he can have them out in about 15 minutes. so im guessing/hoping there will not be complications. how many of you have had nerve damage? is it common? my main fear is just being put to sleep and not waking up. my mom told me the iv needle hurts REALLY bad. is this true? is it also true that you have crazy dreams when you are sedated? tell me everything you know!! :P thanks

No one can explain EXACTLY what is is going to like for you. They can only explain what it was like for them. Everyone responds and feels differently. Some people act like the world is coming to an end with a single injection while others don't feel a thing. If you're getting sedated, you won't be remembering anything anyway.

It was a walk in the park for me. I had all 4 pulled along with 2 molars. (6 total teeth yanked). I am sooooo scared of dentisit and the like. They put me to sleep. I hate IV's, but they sprayed a cold solution on my arm before they put the needle in. Didn't feel a thing. They told me they were putting the sedation meds in my IV and about 10 seconds later I feel VERY heavy and relaxed, then BOOM, out like a light. (I didnt have ANY dreams at all while asleep. I was seriously knocked out) About 45 min later (felt like 1 min later) I was in my car with my wife driving me home.

The only day that was real uncomfortable to me was the 3rd day. I was very sore and kinda tired of the drugged up feeling from the vicoden. I was VERY worried before but now that it has happened. It was no big deal. I also didnt like the no solid food for the first day. The second day I had a eggroll and it tasted like I was eating a 100 dollar steak. It was SOOOOO GOOD!

I had them pulled on a thursday, and by monday I was feeling normal again!

my oral surgan told me nerve damage and sinus damage is very very rare. don't lose any sleep over this event.

I've heard a lot of people react different from having this done - unlike other surgical experiences where people tend to have the same issues. I don't want to scare you, but mine was like nothing described above. It was absolutely horrific, however, my wisdom teeth were removed from a dentist, not an oral surgeon, and yes, they were impacted. I was awake during the entire thing, and I don't think I'll ever forget it! You sound like you are going to an oral surgeon, though, and I would say that's the first step in doing this right. I'm sure you'll pull through just fine!

yes i am going to an oral surgeon. i also dont think they are impacted because they told me there was no rush to get them out. there just isnt room in my mouth for them
