Store bought temporary fillings?

Has anyone ever used the temporary filling stuff you can buy at the store?
Its like a putty that is supposed to work like a temporary filling.
My tooth is hurting me so bad everytime air hits it that I have to do something.
I have tried salt water, and orajel. Nothing helps. If I rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash I have it seems to dull the pain only for a second.
I have also tried the baking soda, packing it in the tooth where it broke off and my mom told me that if its abcessing that it will bubble up but it didn't.

I don't think its abcessing but the side of my tooth broke off close to the nerve and when air hits it I am in extreme pain.

I have never used it myself, but know of someone who did! They said it worked fairly well and relieved the toothache, but it only lasts for a day or 2! SO you really need to get to the dentist asap!

Re: Store bought temporary fillings?

I have used the temporary filling material that you can get at a drug store. I used it when an old filling fell out of one of my molars and it hurt when I breathed or drank anything. I filled it twice a day for 3 days until my dentist office opened and could see me. If it wasnt such a pain to refill it twice a day, I would have waited longer, it really worked well for me personally.
