Help my son swallowed his first tooth!!!

Can anyone please help me find out what to do? My 6 year old son got his very first loose tooth about 3 weeks ago. The new tooth was already growing in behind the baby tooth, but the doctor told me that was ok. We hadn't tried to pull the baby tooth out because it was still attached very well. (or so we thought) But yesterday morning when he woke up the baby tooth was gone! I spent an hour tearing up his bed looking all over for the missing tooth. But with no luck came to the decision that he must of swallowed it. I am so sad, because he is my oldest child. And that was his first baby tooth. Now I don't know what to do. Should I try to find it when it comes out? (kind of eww) When and if it comes out will it still look like a real tooth? Or will it be messed up and not worth hanging on to anyway? If any one can tell me if it's worth it to try to reclaim this very important milestone, it would be so helpful.

I think I would try to "find" the tooth. They only lose their first tooth once.

Re: Help my son swallowed his first tooth!!!

IT will most likely come out the other end intact but might be pretty eww as you say finding it! maybe you can think of some special tooth fairy story for your son to tell him to make this particular tooth special instead. have you read the story about the stars being teeth from the big bag the tooth fairy threw up in the sky ( i can not remember the name of the story)? Maybe you can locate a specially bright star or a darker one to identify with ...one which had a longer way to travel so it was a bit smaller or darker than the others in the night sky where you live and that can be his special star.

Re: Help my son swallowed his first tooth!!!

My brother swallowed his tooth several years ago and when we found in his stool that tooth was still in the same shape. I think tooth is too hard to be digestived by our body.

Good luck

Re: Help my son swallowed his first tooth!!!

Thank you all for the support. I think I will try to find the tooth if i can. Like Crisma said "thay only lose there FIRST tooth once". Dose anyone have any idea how long it will take for the tooth to return? (not sure of a nice way to say it lol) I will let everyone know the outcome of the lost tooth. (sry that sounds bad, lol but you know what i mean lol)
