Root canal complications - Dental Health Message Board

I am in the process of having a root canal carried out on one of my back molars. However after three visits to the dentist, he is unable to find a third canal.
Numerous x-rays have been taken and nothing is showing up, he now says that he thinks I only have two canals, he knows this is rare but states that every tooth is unique so it’s a possibility.
As I’m no dental expert could you please give me some advise as to if this could be true.

Normally in these situations, the dentist will try his best to find the missing canal, and if he can't....then maybe it's not there. But "IF" any complications occur in the future, you'll probably be referred to an endodontist who has more advanced equipment to help locate the cause of the complication, and resolve your "possible" future complication.
