Sensitive Teeth and Medications - Dental Health Message Board

a little under a week ago, my teeth started getting really sensitive to pressure and cold (not all of them, but many of them). I'm also an epileptic for which I'm medicated for. While trying to schedule an appt with a dentist (which thus far has been a circus), one of the receptionists said that my teeth problems may have been affected by medication. Has anyone heard of anything about that? Was it with any epileptic medication? Or related to epilepsy at all?

I have heard of medicine affecting teeth to cold/hot/pressure.
My sister had Leukemia in 2000 and the chemo and/or pills she was on in that process really took a beating on her teeth. She's been off her meds since 02/03 and has noticed her teeth feel like they are stronger then before but still a little sensitive.
Don't know if I was much help, but talk to your doc and see if he can help

Dilantin, a common medication given to prevent epilepsy, will cause gingival hyperplasia (excess tissue growth). If you have had unattended seizures, then the clenching you do involuntarily during the seizure will make your teeth sensitive and hurt - and often can break. This sensitivity can last quite a while. You'll need to look up the side effects of the medication you're on to see if your problem is a reported side effect.
