Wisdom Teeth out at 54 - What to expect

Hi everyone - I am 54 now and had my teeth cleaned today. The hygenist advised me that I would probably need to have my two (upper) wisdom teeth removed as food is starting to get trapped in between them and the teeth in front of them (so I have to use dental floss after each meal)..... She said that if I dont have them removed I could eventually loose the two teeth in front of the wisdom teeth..... (my lower wisdom teeth never came in)

Anyway, just wondering what to expect, how much of a big deal is it at my age. The teeth are not impacted and there is no infection. I'd appreciate any help here......

Re: Wisdom Teeth out at 54 - What to expect

if your lower wisdom teeth are unerupted, that means upper wisdom teeth
have no opposing teeth.

which means that upper wisdom teeth will over erupt, ie come down much
further than they are suppose to.

either way, it sounds like you have some boneloss too.

extraction is optional, it's not a must, and extraction may improve your
ability to clean the area.

unless upper wisdome teeth has weird looking roots, they should come out
rather easily with little post operation pain.

Re: Wisdom Teeth out at 54 - What to expect

I had mine out (all 4 wisdom teeth) last year, a bit older than you are now. I had no problems at all. It was annoying of course and I had the usual bleeding and clots which you can read about on many other posts, but my healing was quick and painless. Healing time and reaction to pain varies from person to person. I doubt if age makes as much of a difference as your own body.
