The first thing you need to know is that rinsing with a mouthwash like listerine "a lot" is not good. True, your mouth can contain bacteria that can do harm to your teeth and gums but rinsing too much with listerine will only make it worse. Our mouths contain healthy bacteria which is critical for healthy gums and teeth. The listerine doesn't target just the bad bacteria, but the good as well. The healthy balance is thrown off and you end up with more of the "bad" bacteria taking hold because there's no "good" bacteria to fight it.
The antibiotic will work. It may take a day or two before you notice a difference, but don't stop using it until you've taken it all. My guess is, your gums are inflamed and sensitive from the frequent use of the listerine. I did the same thing once. Trying to kill the infection in my gums, I went overboard with the listerine. When the pain finally became unbearable, I went to a dentist. That's when I learned about the different types of bacteria in our saliva and the importance of not over-doing the mouthwash.
Once your gums are back to normal, you can use your mouthwash again, but no more than once a day. I sure hope you're feeling better by tomorrow.
