New dentures.. - Dental Health Message Board

Had 13 teeth taken out on June 28th. and an immediate denture after. For most, how long did it take to be able to talk correctly? I'm still having problems talking, I can talk better w/out the damn thing in. I hate this thing. When I have it in, it feels and looks like I have a mouth guard in. Anyone else having these issues? I've got 2 layers of soft liner in it too. This thing sucks. It's just a thin piece of plastic! I payed $1500 for a piece of plastic!?!?

I had 14 teeth pulled on July 11th of this year. It took me about 4 or 5 days to quit slurring and such. I can't make proper "S" sounds without my teeth in. I sound real funny. My kids like to hang out with me and make me talk to them at night after I have taken them out. They end up laughing about it every time. I can still feel the outer rim pushing against my cheeks/lip and it can get annoying from time to time, but I look like an old man without them in so I get over it. I still feel like I'm sucking on a big hard candy most of the time though. And when I'm working and breathing hard the roof of my mouth drys out and my tounge sticks to it a little. But I figure these are normal to having a large piece of plastic stuck in your mouth. I do agree that they are thin plastic. Sometimes I feel like I could break them if I bit hard enough. Don't think I really could, but it's just something about the plastic.

Oh gosh, I am sorry you are having issues.
Was the impressions done before your teeth were removed or no?

Hello, I had top denture put in on Aug. 18th. And it has been hard for me too. I hated them in the beginning. I still have days, but it's getting easier. I don't like the way I talk either, but everyone tells me I sound normal. I hate the way I sound without them. And I hate the way the roof of the denture feels in my mouth too, but I'm told it will feel more normal with time. My dentist said adjusting to dentures takes a lot of paitence, and that is my mantra. From what I've seen on here, it will take months. But theres no going back, so I keep trying. I wish you the best with it! Betty

Oh, I haven't gotten the soft reline yet. Soon I hope. Did that seem to make it any better for you? Betty
