Pain after Dental Work - Dental Health Message Board

I had an old silver filling drilled out to be replaced by a porcelin
inlay. A few days after the the work was done and the temporary
inlay was in the pain started. Dull aching like a vice is on the tooth.
Advil/Aleve works but only for a couple of hours. It does not hurt when
eating but chewing will aggravate it more. This is awful !
Called the dentist and he suggested all should be well after the permanant
is in Thurday 9/15. Should I go in prior to then to have it checked ?
I am thinking of calling for a prescription for somethinmg stronger than
Advil/Aleve cause the pain is killing me ! Any suggestions ?

I had a similar problem 3 years ago and had to eventually have a root canel
6 months later.

If you are that concerned about it, then definatly go in and have him/her look at it and/or order you some stronger pain meds.. I've found that taking 2 tylenol 500mg & 3 Ibuprofin 200mg has the same pain killing effect that a narcotic does. (I'm alergic to most, so I had to find an alternative, works well for me.)

Thanks for your advise.
I went back last wed and had the perm inlay put in. Dentist said to wait until after the weekend to see if it is still hurting ..gave me Vicodin. So far I still
having dull aching pain .. does not seem to get either worse or better. 1/2 Vicodin with 2 advils every 5-6 hours is making it tolerable and keeping me from gettin too cranky. I will go back tommorrow afternoon and get an xray of the teeth in that area..see if another tooth is acting up. Dentist said the tooth he worked on is healthy and the drilling was not deep enough to be concerned about. He is an excellent dentist. I guess dental work is not always predictable.

Could this be sinus related ? It especially hurts after wearing glasses
for a few hours. The pressure from my glasses seems to aggravate the
pain which radiates through the right upper part of my face. I have no
nasal problems otherwise but I have had a recent outbreak of my cold sore which also causes facial pain. I think I will return to dentist to rule out problem with another tooth in that area (upper right back btw last and 2nd to last tooth).

Update: Seems it was a sinus infection. Getting better after 3 days of antibiotics but still hurts some at the upper back teeth. I will update when the pain is GONE but the sinusitis causes tooth aches and there is much about it on internet.
