Thumbs up Almost time...~UPDATE~

Well Everyone,I made it!! Its been about 24 hours since I got my wisdom teeth out. The oral surgeon decided not to take out the bottom right wisdom tooth because of such a high risk of nerve damage. He said I should really think about if I want it out now,or wait to see if it causes me problems down the road, then make a separate appointment just for that tooth so he can take his time and slowly break up the tooth into small chunks and get it out that way. It is impacted and he said it will probably cause me problems later,so Ill have to decide on that one still. But anyway, while its still fresh in my mind,I will let all those people about to go under this surgery what happened when I had it done. First of all,a really nice woman led me into the room I am to have my surgery, sat me in the chair and hooked me up to a heart monitor and a few other things (painless) to make sure I do alright under the general anesthesia. I had a lot of questions still and she was really nice and calmed me down a lot and answered all of my questions and I felt confident that she would make sure I am going to be alright. Next came in the oral surgeon and we talked about my teeth and how he thought the surgery would go and about my lower right wisdom tooth. Then he asked if Im ready, and I said yes and then put an IV in my arm, then I started feeling a little dizzy and they put some black wedges in my mouth(to hold my mouth open,I think),they started to put the gas mask on me,but before they even got it to my face I was waking up in the recovery room! It went so quick,as soon as I said I was ready to go,it literally took not even 5 seconds before I was out like a light. I did, however, end up crying when I woke up. They told me that this is normal and that it happens more often in women than in men. I am also very emotional so I dont think that helped any!*laugh* I felt a little "out of it" and after awhile they let me go home(my fiance drove me home, they wont let you drive if you get general anesthsia) and I just went home and relaxed the whole day, while my fiance brought me anything I wanted and waited on me hand and foot(what a sweetheart). Its only about 24 hours after the surgery, but Im in only a little throbbing pain and a little swollen. Im on antibiotc and tylonal 3 and it seems to be keeping the pain in check. All in all, so far it hasnt been a bad experiance for me. Not nearly as bad as I expected. Its really not that horrible and for all those going into surgery,I hoped this story helped by giving you my personal experiance. Good luck and Take care.

Question

Hi Everyone!
It's now been seven days since I got my 3 wisdom teeth out. I'm just wondering how long does it take for my dissolvable stiches to be gone? And what can I eat now? Mashed potatoes and pudding are getting really old *laugh* Also I didnt get a syringe either, should I get one of those?
Thank you for your help
Lori

Hello-

By day seven, I was eating normal, solid food, with a few exceptions (I didn't want to try and eat steak, etc.).

The doctor told me it takes seven to ten days for the stitches to dissolve, but it took mine two weeks!!! And you should have had a follow up appointment scheduled for a check up. That's when I got my syringe, during the follow up.

Also, when you do get the syringe, follow the direction and use it!! I wasn't very concerned with using it, and one of the extraction sights got infected. It was very painful! Now, after I eat anything, even something like yogurt, I use the syringe just to be on the safe side.

Hi Toothman and Jahz,

Toothman: It is for cleaning the extraction sites.

Jahz: I dont have a follow up appointment, they said I didnt need one unless something went wrong with my recovery. Hmmmmm, maybe I will make one though, just to be sure everything is healing correctly. I havent brought myself to eat solid foods yet because I am scared to rip the stitches out,so hopefully they dissolve for me soon! *laugh* Thanks again for your help
Take Care
