Wisdom problems - Dental Health Message Board

Hello,

I recently had my upper right-hand side wisdom tooth removed on 4/28/01. And have since followed the directions given to me by the dentist. I am experiencing a problem with what I believe to be dry socket. The gums around the molar in front ot the wisdom are swollen and feel to be pulling away slightly from the tooth on the outside edge. Also the two molars in front of the tooth ache slightly but not much. But the odd thing is the socket itself seems to be healing fine. It is now about 1/2 covered by the gums. The only thing I can think of is dry-socket. Please let me know what you believe it is.

Hello,
Well if you had dry socket you would definitley know it. You would have have severe pain in your ear as well as your throat. I'm not exactly sure why you are having swelling of the gums. The only thing I could possibly think of is an infection. Hope this helped a little anyway!!

I went to the dentist this morning and he said that it is called Granulation. It is caused by the gums healing real fast (which is a normal problem with me I heal very fast). What it is new gums are packed with at least 4 times the normal amount of blood vessels and when they get bumped or irritated they bleed profusely. He then put me on antibiotics to protect them from infection.
