Dear Worry, Don't worry, I just had my Wisdom teeth out a week ago, 3 of them. I too had some tounge discoloration. I asked my OS, when you have a wisdom tooth extracted it is common practise for the OS to put some kind of antibiotic directly in the site:IE they pour some in the hole. It is usually tetracycline or penicilline, both of which will discolor your tounge for a while, while they disolve, you may actually have a pill like taste in you mouth for a while as well, very nasty. And when you rinse, it may come out a little yellow/grey slime (yuck). I'm over the worst of mine now still a little sore though and really looking forward to solids again, and not having these holes in my mouth. As for the crowns, Naw they don't hurt, they just take longer for the dentist to preshape the tooth and fit, after it feels a little odd, kinda like you have something stuck to the top of your tooth. Not painfull just a little anoying ,you bite funny for a day or too then you learn to ignore it and then you forget its even there. Trust me, as a person who is terrified of pain, and who avoided going to the dentist for 20years and now is stuck(my own fault)paying big time for it, I have and still need a mouth full of caps. They work like a charm. I still rip open bags, chew pens with the greatest of ease. As for the deep cleaning, depends on two things 1, how long can you stand having someone figet in your mouth 2. and how sensitive your gums are. Myself I had to have this done aswell (you can't save your teeth if you don't save the bone there in.) deep cleaning gets rid of all the gunk that builds up below the gum line and damages the bone and receeds the gum line, after a while there is too much exposed "line" for teeth this is a disaster( dentures are next). Relax though your dentist sounds like he/she is ontop of things. They wouldn't suggest caps if there was to much damage. Does it hurt?, ever sucked a hard candy and kinda cut your tounge thats about as bad as it gets. your teeth feel achey for about a day. but WOW what a difference, food tastes better,(no gunk to spoil it) your teeth feel so clean and fresh. and your breath WOW. I must admit though I got a little "****y" after sitting in the chair for 3 1hr sittings. My teeth were very bad. But I got through it and it was not painfull at all, just time consuming. So from one waited to long to do it to another, good luck, and may the floss be with you.
