Question Gums Real Sore...Using Periogaurd...HELP!!

Well, back with a bigger problem. I had my Lower Wisdom as well as My Lower Molar...both next to each other extracted 1 week ago. Since then I have found out that I need to have a deep cleaning to prevent gum surgery...well this totaly freaks me out given that I haven't been to a dentist in years. My first question is...is this painful and what is the procedure...they need to get under the gumline?
My second thing is...my dentist prescribed to me Periogaurd because of cankersores from rinsing with salt water so much. While brushing my gums I had brused over the cankersoresand the prescribed rinse that I have been using is setting my mouth on fire. I am so scared now.
I am still having pain and soreness in my jaw as well as a little pain in my ear. It has been 8 days since the extraction...is there any way that I can now end up with Dry Socket?
I am also wondering how long it should take before the two holes in my gums should heal?
My last question is...I have my appointment for my cleaning in 6 days, should I stop using the rinse and hope that this clears up before my appt? It just hurts (stings) so much! Please...whoever reads this please respond...I am VERY concerned. I am such a baby when it comes to any dental work...HELP!!!
Thanks, Sandy

Well, back with a bigger problem. I had my Lower Wisdom as well as My Lower Molar...both next to each other extracted 1 week ago. Since then I have found out that I need to have a deep cleaning to prevent gum surgery...well this totaly freaks me out given that I haven't been to a dentist in years. My first question is...is this painful and what is the procedure...they need to get under the gumline?

-------------------------------------------

They need to get under the gum line.
The procedure can be done with anesthetic to deaden your gums. Let the dentist know ahead of time thats what you want. You can also have nitros oxide. But, you have to let them know in advance. When your done, it's going to be sore because your gums are in bad shape. It won't be unbearable though. This is what you go through when you haven't had a cleaning in a long time

--------------------------------------------

My second thing is...my dentist prescribed to me Periogaurd because of cankersores from rinsing with salt water so much. While brushing my gums I had brused over the cankersoresand the prescribed rinse that I have been using is setting my mouth on fire.

--------------------------------------------

It sets your mouth on fire because of the sores. But, it really does work. Try cutting the Perioguard with water until you can tolerate it. But, having done that, try to swish it around your mouth longer and use it more often.

--------------------------------------------

I am so scared now.
I am still having pain and soreness in my jaw as well as a little pain in my ear. It has been 8 days since the extraction...is there any way that I can now end up with Dry Socket?

---------------------------------------------

The pain in you jaw and in your ear sounds more a spained jaw muscle from when the teeth were pulled. That happens sometimes. Take some asprin and apply heat to the sore area. It is always possible to have a dry socket. But, if you don't smoke and follow the dentist's instructions, it's not very likely.

-------------------------------------------

I am also wondering how long it should take before the two holes in my gums should heal?

Six weeks or longer if their are complications.

My last question is...I have my appointment for my cleaning in 6 days, should I stop using the rinse and hope that this clears up before my appt?

--------------------------------------------

No, do not cancel the appointment. But, call the Dentist's office three days before your appointment and let them know about the condition of your mouth. They may want to delay your appointment.

-------------------------------------------
It just hurts (stings) so much!
------------------------------------------
Do you know what Clove gum is? The clove in it acts as a mild anesthetic when you chew it. If you can find some to chew, it might make your mouth feel better. You can also use asprin and motrin. There is also a certain cankersore medicine that coats your sores.

-------------------------------------------

Please...whoever reads this please respond...I am VERY concerned. I am such a baby when it comes to any dental work...HELP!!!
Thanks, Sandy
-------------------------------------------

Hope this information helps.

Cool

Thanks so much again Robert.I did follow the rules as far as not smoking and started smoking again about 4 days after the extraction. I talked to my OS today and he told me that the pain in my ear may be from some bone that is exposed, but when the openings heal over the pain will disappear. I am not having severe pain, but it is sometimes uncomfortable and it is tolerable. Is this true that it may be a small dry socket?
I rinsed with the periogard once today and didn't have a bad reaction, but I will try diluting it with water. I am supposed to use a capful twice a day. How much water should I use with each cap? Half?
What exactly does the nitros oxide do?
I hope you reply to this posting as well and Thanks so much again for your help.

Usually, when you have a dry socket, it hurts unbearably. So, I don't think it is. But, if you must smoke, protect the socket from contamination by gently biting down on a piece of clean rolled up gauze placed over the socket while you are smoking and then rinse your mouth out afterwards. A tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide makes a nice rinse because it foams out any smoke particles.

You will have to experiment a little. Dilute the periogard just enough for you to tolerate and gradually work up to full strength as your mouth gets used to it.
-------------------------------------------
What exactly does the nitros oxide do?
-------------------------------------------
It makes you relax. You feel allot less nervous. Yet, you are awake and responsive.
It is used allot by dentists. It used to be called Laughing Gas.

I hope you reply to this posting as well and Thanks so much again for your help.
