Removing stitches

What does it feels like when the stitches are being removed from the gums? Will it hurt? Had my wisdom teeth surgery done and going to remove the stitches tomorrow... don't know what to expect.

Re: Removing stitches

I was looking at the gum and I saw this hole... no blood coming out but I can still taste the iron taste in my mouth especially when I rinse it. Could it be that the stitches had came off and there's the hole? Still waiting to go back to my surgeon.

Re: Removing stitches

Usually the stitches come out on their own. I had them in 7 places this summer and they all came out on their own about 5 days after the teeth were pulled. The holes take a long time to fill in. Mine are still closing some and it's been 3 months.

Re: Removing stitches

I have had stitches in my mouth four times....
once for a rather difficult extraction and the other three times for
perio surgeries.

On NONE of the occasions did I have the stitches that dissolve so
(of course) I was required to go back so the dentist could remove them.
Each time, I went in 7 days after the procedure, and never was it the least
bit uncomfortable or painful. Really, I either felt nothing, or it was a small, very slight
*tickling* feeling as the stitch was removed.

As the other poster said, it does take a while for the holes to fill in.

Best wishes,
Debbie
