How do they take it off, and will it hurt? Will my tooth be safe?
They pop it of like a bottle cap using a sharp tool. It might hurt some but, you ask for a shot of novacain.
I can't make a 100 percent guarantee that your tooth won't split or break. It really depends upon the condition of the tooth when it was crowned. If you had a really big, deep filling in your tooth before it was crowned, the walls will be thinner and more likely to crack.
All and all, the vast majority of the times a crown is removed goes without a hitch and, unless you have severe peridontal disease, it is unlikely that the tooth itself would come loose.
