I'm copying some of my information that I wrote previously about this subject:

1.The composition of gold fillings vary, so you would need to consult your dentist. Gold dental fillings typically contain other metals such as platinum, silver, and palladium to make them suitable for your teeth. To be used as a dental filling it needs to be durable. Gold by itself is very soft.

2. Silver fillings as they are called by a lot of dentists actually are composed of approximately 50 percent mercury. Mercury is extremely poisonous, even in very small amounts. The mercury in these dental fillings constantly leak out into your body, and is difficult to remove.

I should further note that in a silver filling (mercury-silver dental amalgam) the composition of silver is often much less than the mercury. The material components for the mercury-silver dental amalgam breaks out somewhat like this (although this can vary too):

Mercury 50%
Silver 30%
Copper, Tin, Zinc 20%

You'll need to consult your dentist for the exact material percentages for the product that he or she may be using for dental restorations.
