Pain!!! (wisdom teeth) - Dental Health Message Board

On the 11th, my wisdom teeth were extracted. I had all four of them cut out and the dentist said that by the third day, I should be somewhat fine. Well, it's the third day and I feel worse than on the first day. My jaws are swollen and sore and my gums are unbelievable! My cousin had warned me of getting a "dry socket", but I am unsure of what that is. I am taking 800mg of Ibuprofen and Stagesic(it's like Vicodin). Is there something that I can do to stop the pain? Please help me! I greatly appreciate any replys!

ok first of all relax.. i dont think you have a dry socket yet.. its only been 2 days so thats sorta early for a dry socket.. when u have a dry socket its the worst pain ever.. and its constant and NOTHING takes it away.. take another painkiller and just relax.. i was freaking out last week cause i kept thinking "this pain is to much i have a dry socket!" but i didnt.. and swelling gets worse 2nd and 3rd day and after that it decreases so fast! this is going to hurt of course.. my jaw still hurts man.. and this was 11 days ago for me.. i still gotta take tylenol every 3 hours.. drink some heavy chocolate milk to coat ur tummy, take another pain killer and lay down.. today is usually the hardest.. tomorrow night and the morning after you will see how much better u feel.. its going to be ok!! if u really feel like you have a dry socket, and if that pain ur having is constant then call the doctor.. the pain i had was just UGH deep down in the socket and in my jaw and it sucked!! sometimes i would get little sharp pains but thats all normal!! i know how you feel.. you are so smart by getting them all removed!! you will never ever have to go thru this again..
