Severe cheek pain after wisdom teeth surgery - Dental Health Message Board

I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed two and a half weeks ago my sockets are healing well but my left cheeks is in intense and extreeme pain. When i went to have my surtures removed seven days after the intial surgery i told my doctor of my cheek pain but he ignored me saying it looked fine. i then went home only to pull an 1 1/2 inch long suture out of a bump on my left cheek and the next day have a tooth fragment come out of it. My left cheek has always been in more pain after the surgery but it doesnt seem to get any better. I went to the doctor on thursday to find out what is wrong and he keeps telling me there nothing and his oinly advice was to perscribe another narcotic. I dont feel like i can trust him to tell me the truth after what has happened. I cant even eat normal food yet and i have lost ten pounds. If anyone has any advice please help me i have been taking aleve at his suggestion and it helps a little but im tired of being in constant pain.

golly, it sounds like you're definatly having trouble. i'm in a similar situation though. i am in imense pain as well. i had my teeth extracted on the 11th and i'm still in pain. the narcotics do not seem to help. i say to get a 2nd opinion though. that would work best! keep taking the narcotics. good luck!

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. I ran into the same problems with my oral surgeon - the guy and his staff were real jerks.

You can either get a second opinion, or maybe go to your general dentist instead. The chip of tooth might be from what he extracted - I think they have to break the lower teeth to get them out. Maybe he missed a piece and that was irritating you. Best to have it looked at by someone else. Good luck!

I feel for you, I really do. I love my general dentist, but I am having problems with my oral surgeon. It seems like once patients start complaining about post-operative pain, they just don't want to hear it. I think I have a pretty strong tolerance for pain. If I say I'm hurting, I mean it, and I am sure you do to. I think we all deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. They shouls listen to us, and show some empathy.
