Wisdom teeth out tomorrow - nervous - Dental Health Message Board

Hi everyone,

I get three wisdom teeth out tomorrow. 1 is impacted and the other two have alread erupted. I had 1 wisdom tooth last year due to a bad infection and it wasn't bad at all, just a little sore. I'm nervous about what it's going to be like having 3 out at the same time. I'm going to be asleep for the whole procedure. Is the recovery as bad as everything I've read? My doctor has prescribed Tylenol 3 for pain.

I would love to hear from other people!

I had 4 impacted wisdoms out at once. EEk, sorry I can't be more encouraging. I would suggest making sure they give you Percocet, if your stomach can handle it. Rest alot.
You can be totally different though. Think positive thoughts.

Hi Kim

I had all my wisdom teeth removed three days ago and I was petrified too!!! I was put to sleep, it was fine, woke u and it was all done!!

One side of my face didnt swell and has not caused me any pain, the other side did swell and has been constant pain, but I continue to take my pain killers, make sure you take some ibuprofen (to reduce the imflammation).

The only thing driving me nuts is not being able to eat normal food, roll on when I can open my mouth wide enough and eat more than soup and mash!!!

Good luck, it will be over nad dne with before you know it!!!

Hey Kimberley: UK Chick is correct - it is not a pleasant procedure-but it is not that bad after the first day! Don't worry about the swelling and the pain that goes with it. If you rest, take your meds for the first 2 days, you will be feeling a lot better soon. Try to sleep it all. You will see, it will pass and you will be better off as a result. Good Luck!!

I thought I'd give you a fairly good experience.
I was really nervous too because you always hear how bad it is!

I had all 4 removed, none were erupted. I was asleep for it too.
Honestly...it really wasnt that bad! I wasnt very swollen at all...didnt bruise either. I was in a decent amount of pain the first day or so. I was given Percocet and used that, which I didnt really like the effect. So after the first day, I was only taking a quarter of a pill every 4-6 hours.

My biggest problem is that I had a bad reaction to the antibiotic I was given. It gave me horrible stomach pains and made me nauseous. So I really couldnt eat (even the things I get down like applesauce and soup made me sick). So I would spend a lot of time dry heaving, which isnt fun with a sore mouth. I was downright miserable from the stomach problems.
I didnt realize it was the antibiotics but finally did and stopped taking them...after that things improved a lot.

But overall, it was nowhere near as bad as I anticipated! Sure, it was pretty painful the first day...but after that my jaw just ached. And it was hard for me to open my mouth. But after hearing all the horror stories I was expecting much worse.
If it wasnt for the antibiotic, it would have been a breeze!
