Unhappy tooth abscess

Hi,

I need some serious quick as possible help for some terrible pain.

I usually post in the chronic pain and back board but have developed major dental problems. What I thought was a ear ache was broncitis, throat infection, and tooth absess. My doctor put me on zythromax (sp?) which basically wipes all chest infections etc away and more. Sent me to the dentist from his office where the dentist wouldn't/couldn't do anything to help me until they clear up the abscess. That was Monday, it is now Thursday and I am in just as much pain as I was on Monday (well, maybe a little less cuz doctor told me to take more of my pain meds, every two hours instead of three times a day.

They called in penicillian today hoping that it will change things. I know the dentist's nurse said I would go through two days of hell but two days are over. I have an appt monday for them to remove tooth on Monday, but absess doesn't seem to be going away.

I have decided to have my tooth taken out at hospital while i am asleep cuz i can't take much more pain, so they are working on that, but is this lenght normal. four days of hell...I'm talking I have five kids and back surgery and would prefer all of them at once.

The otc meds are a joke, and i have no other idea what to do. Why couldn't they do something other than numb it for four hours. I called the hospital to see if they could help but they said they didn't have a dentist on and couldn't do anything. What do I do? I don't know if i can wait four more days like this.

Is this normal, can't they drill out the infection or something, or even rip the sucker out? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Dayna

Hello, Sorry for your pain.
I can't believe they are making you go through this PAIN!
I went through something like that.
I had a Root canal on a infected tooth and 5 days later the pain came back!
I went back and told him I Wanted it out but he said he won't cuz It still needs to heal. BUT I know This was a not from the work it was Nerve PAIN.
So I went to the Dental ER and got it pulled. The other tooth on the other side same thing... I went to the Oral surgeon and got it pulled.
If I were you, I would call friends or family if they know any other Dentsit and go in.. OR a oral surgeon IF You can't go to the ER.
The Hospital by my house doesn't have Dental ER so I had to go to one in Down town. so call around.
Let me know how it went : )
Hang in there.
GOOD LUCK!
Emi

It's one of those things that has to clear up from the inside out I'm afraid. Try a cold pack on for 15min. then nothing for 15 then warm for 15, then nothing for 15min. Keep doing this it may help with inflamtion, ie..pain. Works with back pains too. My mother had back surgery and I took care of her. I've also had bad tooth abcesses, close to the eyes like that can sometimes be dangerous, so keep an eye out for that.(sorry for the pun) Certain types of infections needs certain kinds of anti-biotics, the new kind should help. Good luck, Diana

Hi,

Bromelain, an enzyme helps swelling, inflammation and pain. I get Megabromelain, by Twinlab, capsules, as in my experiencde they work. I took about 15 when I had a swollen face, and they brought it down. I also took them after oral surgery along with homeopathic arnica, and hypericum, and never had to take pain meds.

HI,

Thanks, where do you get that GNC? I'm still willing to try anything. Almost a week later and still in as much pain. Went to hospital last night, even though when I called a couple of days ago they said they couldn't help. At first she was gonna give me some percs (which I have, cuz of my back and weren't touching it) than I cried and asked her to numb it so i could at least eat, (I hadn't eaten in six days) She gave me a nerve block that was awesome. Ear pain was gone in the first couple secs, she waited, gave me more and the rest of the pain was gone. She said she put something in it to make it last longer, could last up to 24. I cried out of thankfullness. No pain until I woke up at five this morning. As much as I want to complain, i was able to eat at least.

I found out not only was it abscessed, but impacted and this guy wants to take it out in his rinky dink mall office. Nope. I called around (rather mom did since i couldn't talk) and there is a hospital in Boston that has a er dentist on call at all times. And then their are some dental schools like Harvard and Tufts which I wouldn't mind going if they except my insurance. (I have masshealth, since I am disabled)

Just waiting for a babysitter, so cross your fingers or pray if you pray. Am I wrong in thinking that this procedure shouldn't be done in a mall office. I really want to knocked out or at least "laughing gas" if that's still around.

Thanks again for advice and will try that remedy.

love,
dayna
