I had my bottom left wisdom tooth and the one in front of it taken out Thursday (13th). I developed dry socket on Sat. The pain is the worst I have ever had, and I am going on two nights with zero sleep. The dentist packed it with medicated gauze Sunday, but the relief was short-lived. I also have really bad swelling around the affected area. Is this common with a dry socket? How long can I expect to be in pain? I was given hydrocodone 5/500, and it doesn't touch the pain. If anyone else has gone through this, did they give you any antibiotic? Thanks for your time, and I think its wonderful how everyone on this board supports one another.
I just had my wisdom teeth pulled on the 7th and I didn't get dry socket however, my face was very swollen. It scared the crap out of me. It's still a little swollen and it's almost been 2 weeks.
Luckily, I DID sleep last night, and when I woke up, the pain was nearly gone. I feel for anyone else who has to go through this. Whatever you do, DON NOT SMOKE after an extraction. You will suffer greatly for it.
I developed a dry socket after having a wisdom tooth pulled out and had the same course of treatment you did. The dentist did not give me antibiotics and it took a week to clear up. The dentist did tell me that 1 in 100 people will get a dry socket after a wisdom tooth extraction...so think of it as being a unique individial!! Hope you are better soon!
I had my two bottom wisdom teeth taken out on 6/11.
I started having pain and a really bad taste in my mouth so I went to the surgeon on 6/15 and he said it was a dry socket. He put some stuff on it but by the next day the pain was back. I had the stitches taken out on 6/18 and he said the pain and the bad taste would go away but the pain has now spread to my other teeth. It will be 2 weeks this Tues. since I had them taken out and I'm still in pain..should I go back to the surgeon or wait it out? How long should the pain last?
