Unhappy Scared! Wisdom teeth questions

My wisdom teeth are about a quarter of the way out and i was wondering if i will for sure have to have an iv during the process of getting them pulled? I'm quite scared. I also have needles and the thought of an iv scares me. do they hurt much? Does it hurt less if you're on gas? can you have the gas THEN the iv? sorry so many questions. thank you so much.

If you're nervous about any aspect of the procedure, I'd highly recommend IV sedation. My oral surgeon gave me nitrous oxide first to make sure I was comfortable and not stressed out. Then after I was pretty relaxed, he put the IV in. I've had IV's before and this one was a piece of cake. Because of the gas, I didn't feel a thing. Then, after just a few seconds, I was completely in lala land. I woke up and my teeth were gone. I only had two out and they were fully erupted, but mine only took about 45 minutes total for everything.

At 40, I was terrified, but the gas and the IV made it VERY managable. Also, make sure you let them know you're apprehensive. My oral surgeon was great about it all.

Good luck!
Lynn

so it doesn't hurt at all when they put in the iv? i've never had one before. did it hurt the first time you had an iv? when they put in the iv during the wisdom teeth procedure, do they put it in your wrist? or the other side of your elbow? (the underside of it, where it bends in) how much pain and blood comes after the procedure, when you're healing?

i have some other questions too (sorry) when the iv is taken out, are you still asleep? does it hurt? When the procedure is over, do the surgeons just leave you there until you wake up? how long afterwards will it take for you to wake up? How do they know you won't wake up during the procedure? is it the medicin in the IV that causes you to fall asleep?
