Post still tender

I had a root canal finished a week ago and still felt soreness in the tooth which was only relieved by ibuprophin or codeine. Called the endodontist who said it may be infected and then proceeded with antibiotics for 5days (Zithromax). Today I finished the last antibiotic and my tooth is still somewhat sore when antiinflamatories wear off. Has anyone else gone through this? I really don't want to go back again for him to open up my tooth for a third time. I have had this endodontist do root canals before and never had a problem like this one. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Jazzy,
I know exactly what your going through. Since I've had 7 root canals and I pray NO MORE to come, I can totally relate. One of my root canals was doing the same thing as yours. I had my endo keep the tooth open (don't have him fill it) for about a week or so to let it drain and breath so the pressure wouldn't build up. Maybe doing this would help you as well. Also, this tooth may just need to settle down which could take a few months....Good luck

Yeah, I am having one re-treated(go back Thurs. morning) and after the first appointment, where they cleaned out the infection and the material used to fill the roots, I had pain for about six days. Worst 3-4 days after, then it started to quiet down. After the second appointment, much less pain. Usually, for me, it's the reverse.

Thanks subie and chica for your responses. I think it is too late to have him leave it open as he put that wax stuff and temporary filling in it already. The filling is a little high which I keep hitting when I do bite so that may contribute to the soreness. Some of the stuff I have read on the dangers of root canals on the web are really scaring me though. Do you have any thoughts on the dangers of root canals?
