I had my final wisdom tooth out on Friday and it was a major performance - 15 minutes of wrenching and pulling and it completely disintegrated. I knew I would be tender when the injections wore off, but it seems to be getting sorer. And the gum on the tongue side of the hole is quite swollen and puffy, so the socket looks like a triange shape instead of a circle. Plus, there is a white area in the socket. It isnt remaining tooth, and I dont think its food as I cant flush it out. Could this be infected???
The white tissue is probably nothing to worry about. And the hole doesn't have to be round. As long as your only symptoms are soreness or tenderness, you are probably okay. Continue warm salt water rinses, they are the best for reducing swelling and soreness. If you start having severe pain or throbbing, then you should see your dentist. Don't try to get that white tissue out, it needs to stay. It is like scar tissue, will go away and you'll be okay.
