Found a new DDS, need some bigtime feedback though!!! - Dental Health Message Board

I called a DDS who was recommended by a friend of a friend type thing. I got in yesterday and he said he thinks that I may have a chronic abcess just by looking at the xray. He said time will let us know for sure.

He tapped on it, made it hurt, it calmed down. This has been the pain pattern as of lately. He was very friendly, seemed to be very concerend. I have an awful lot of work that needs to be done however. Years ago I was in an awful accident and lost alot of upper back molars on the right from trauma. I never had those teeth replaced so naturally, everything is off. I have a false crossbite, etc.

I have alot of stain from coffee, tea, etc. I brush 3 times a day and floss but the stain is stubborn. He assured me that he'd get the stain off.

Yesterday when I went in though, I did find him to be friendly. He kept talking to me, looking in my mouth, the whole 9 yards. He was leaving town for the weekend and said he would call me this morning to check on me to see how I was doing. He didn't want me to get into trouble while he was away for the weekend. I thought that was very nice of him,and to me it means he does care.

He ended up calling yesterday afternoon instead. He said he would feel better if he saw me before he left to make sure I'd be okay. I agreed to meet him this morning at 9 at his office. Which isn't a big deal. His office is less than 5 min. away from where I live.

I met him this morning and he evaluated the tooth again, the bite, and the tissues. We talked about getting the stain off, bleaching, and then replacing the missing teeth to balance things out. He said it won't take as long as I think it will. Just small talk you know?

On the way out this morning, he's wanting to be overly comforting. As in, very *touchy*. It made me quite uncomfortable. I like him because I do think he's wanting to try and help me out. I just don't like the touchy stuff. I don't want someone to try and hold my hand on the way out the door, etc. It just made me feel weird. Maybe that's just his personality.

I mean, I've only seen him twice. Maybe it's just his nature to be that way. I don't know. But I do like him as a dentist. I just feel awkward with someone trying to get that close to me.

I want to keep going because he's nice and does seem to care about what's going on and his office is so close to where I live.

What do you think?? Is it weird for this behaviour? Should I say anything or just let it go and see if it happens again?

Sorry if this doesn't really belong here but this was a first for me as far as affectionate dentists go!

It was just weird. Too close for my comfort that's for sure.

This is a difficult one, if you were feeling very anxious then maybe tapping your shoulder or rubbing your arm could have been his way of trying to make you feel at ease with him, my dentist was like it with me, however if he actually held your hand on the way out then i do find this a little odd but that might just be his way. You say you like him as a dentist well i wouldn't give up on him just yet but if he continues with being a little over friendly let him know that you are not happy with it and take it from there. I forgot to ask you , were you the only one there with him? if so why not try taking a friend along next time. Regards

Yeah, it was just the 2 of us. I thought it was odd at first when he called yesterday saying he wanted to see me before he left.

But, I did think his motives were sincere. As in, wanting to help.

It was more than trying to hold my hand on the way out. He tried to kiss me on the side of my neck and gave me a pat on the rear end on the way out the door!

I have no witnesses. No way to prove what happened. I told my mom about it and she said from now on, I won't go alone.

It made me incredibly uncomfortable. I got out to my car thinking what the hell was THAT all about?

I want someone to help me fix my teeth but jeez, I don't want that kind of attention!

My mom said she thought it was odd as well that he wanted to see me this morning. But, I honestly, honestly thought it was because he did want to help and make sure I'd be ok until he got back.

This was just way too much for me. I just don't know of a nice way of saying to this guy it's ok if you wanna help me, just don't try and kiss me and grab my butt on the way out.

I know this sounds far fetched but it did happen. I just won't go alone again. Ever. My mom, my step dad, my exhusband, someone will be with me from now on. And I won't be the last appointment of the day. Period.

We all want a nice friendly caring dentist but one that wants to kiss your neck and pat your butt is a little much I think. I would take someone with me next time and bring them into the room with you if you continue to use that dentist.

FIND ANOTHER DENTIST. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE. Did he actually do anything dental related other than talk. I work for a dentist and trust me, they do not go to the office on Sat. just to talk because they are concerned. If he was that concerned about your comfort, he would have prescribed pain meds, etc. If tapping on your tooth hurts, it needs a root canal! He may already know this and is waiting for you to call him, in pain so he can get you alone in the office for an "emergency" visit, why wait to treat something if he is SO concerned and all the symptoms say root canal. Think about it! His behavior is appalling and should not be condoned. As long as your in pain, he knows you need him! Malpractice!!! Stay away!!! Not all people choose a profession for the right reasons. Some firemen are arsonists, and some doctors are perverts!
