Temporary crown hurting, help!!! - Dental Health Message Board

Hi Everyone

after about 9 fillings in the past few months, i am so fed up with going to the dentist.

i need three crowns, but two can wait. one on of my teeth, which cracked, i had a temporary crown put in. not until dec 3rd do i get my porcelain one. i was so excited when i got the crown put on because i could chew on that side of my mouth, which i wasn't able to do for 6 months.

after about 2 days of having it, i suddenly can't chew on it. i feel a sharp pain when i bite. i thought i was home free and now here we go again!! i dont know whether to call my dentist or wait it out for a couple weeks. i dont know if something is poking me or what. has anyone had this happen? it only hurts when i accidentally chew on it, and its only one portion of the temporary crown. help!!

i am so sick of going back to the dentist with more problems!!

I had and have the same problem with temporary caps. I don't know why you got yours but mine were for pain at the roots of 2 teeth and root canals don't work on me so we tried to cover the areas up.

The one temp cap just got redone totally last week and feels better. But after a few days it always starts hurting a little and it progresses.

The other one has been on over 5 weeks and is inflaming my gum to the point of redness, small blister and burning. I am phoning the dentist today.

So it could be they are not fittd properly to you. If you continue to have this many problems at the dentist, why not look for a good cosmetic dentist. Not all dentists are equal.

Hi. I would go back to your dentist, if the tooth continues to bother you. You will want to make sure the tooth is okay, before having a permanent crown put on it. Good luck to you...Debbie

I agree with Deb47. Get it checked out. The pain is typical for teeth with cracks. Depending on how deep the crack, you may need a root canal, or possibly the permanent crown will protect the tooth enough to prevent the crack from propagating. Only your dentist can tell.

SO i have an appointment on thur morning. i am freaking out, reading that i might need a root canal or extraction! i can't afford a root canal, i already need one in a dif tooth, along with two more crowns that i can wait on for a few months so insurance can help out.

i am so frustrated with my teeth. who would have thought getting filling after filling, and having problem after problem can have such an affect on your life...i think about these teeth problems constantly, and haven't been able to chew normally for 7 months...it makes me wonder why i ever bothered going for a check up in the first place
