More problems! - Dental Health Message Board

Hi All

Well whilst making my mind up over whether to have my problem root canaled tooth extracted i developed the most awful pain which covered the right hand side of my face right down in to my neck and it was so intense i really couldn't tell where it was coming from. Off i went again to the dentist who examined my mouth and said he wasn,t sure either. Apparantly i have a wisdom tooth (lower right) that is decayed and has pockets(whatever that means) and that this could be causing me pain as well. The other problem tooth is a upper molar on the same side. He said he wanted to pull the upper one there and then but i panicked and said i couldn't go through with it although i know it is probabaly for the best as i have lost count of the amount of antibiotics i have took for this. Anyway he ended up giving me a copy of the x-ray to take to the dental hospital next week to see if they know whats going on and some more antibiotics. I got so upset and it didn,t help that my partner was shouting at me all the way home for not having the tooth pulled. I really don't know what to do next as the stess is killing me. Does anyone have similar problems with a wisdom tooth and can it cause so much pain. Thanks

Hi Maz,
Yes wisdom teeth can cause lots of pain and so can the infected root canal tooth. I took many, many rounds of antibiotics also for the pain I was having for almost 2 years until I got courage up enough to have the root canaled tooth pulled. Really it was not as bad I had expected and was not worth all the anxiety I put myself thru. I have also had my wisdom teeth removed but it was not a simple extraction cause mine never surfaced and were impacked and had to be removed with by surgery. Believe me Maz the pain your going thru now is worse than the extraction. I know what you mean about your partner getting upset with you. My husband is like that and when I finally got the courage up to get the extraction done I went alone and never told him I was going in case I chickened out. Ha But I did it. Good Luck Maz and be strong and get it done, you can do it.

I noticed you are from the UK same as me. How are you getting on. I too am suffering with dental problems and have found no boards or information in the UK.

Thanks for your support. I know that i just keep putting things off but i just find it do very hard. I am supposed to be going to the dental hospital on tuesday but i have gone and arranged a big birthday party for my daughter for the following Sunday and i worry that if i have the extraction i will feel too unwell to do it, i also worry about the cost of the implant etc. I will try though but i am on antibiotics again and once they kick in and i feel ok i will be more reluctant to go.
How are you?, have you sorted out a new dentist?
Anyway must go have to see to 3 kids, 1 hubby, 2 cats 3 fish and a chinchilla.

I am not so good at the moment , i just seem to get one problem after another. I don't think you will find many dental sites in the Uk most are in the US like this one but when you have problems there are some great people on here who can relate to you and it doesn't make much difference where they live . We do have the nhs though but it's just getting worse at some surgerys with the waiting list etc.

what problems have you got and have you got a good dentist? (very hard to find). I have just found a new one and he seems really nice he is just not totally sure what is causing me so much pain at the moment hence the referral to the dental hospital, I live in Sheffield and many of the dentists in the uk trained at this hospital .

Anway let me know how you are?
