possible oral thrush????????? - Dental Health Message Board

Hi, In the last 6 months, I have gone to 3 different doctors because of a sore throat that is only on my left side. Each time I went I was told I had uri and another time strep throat and the last time a few days ago he said I had an infected throat of some sort. I took antibiotics every time, nothing seems to help. I've had this yellowish spot on my tonsils that would not go away, I finally got something and tried to scrape it off, it did come off then that spot started to bleed. I started looking up things on line then oral thrush popped up. I was wondering if this could possibly be oral thrush. My mouth does not look like any pictures they showed of it. The only spots I had was on my tonsil, I do notice the roof of my mouth looks a little yellowish. Is it possible to have it down my throat? Since all of this that been on going for 6 months now, My chest has been hurting as well. I was wondering if this all could be conneced. What time of doctor do I see. Ent or dentist? Could this be life threatening if not treated soon enough? thanks for all replies. Becky

Hi:

I had oral thrush several months ago right after a dental work done and my oh-so-brilliant (!) dentist could not even diagnose it. He just kept claiming that I had a Strep infection or mono although I told him that I feel fine otherwise. Finally my regular doctor (family physician) diagnosed me with thrush, and prescribed some oral medicine and in two days it was gone. I also did have sore throat on one side of my throat. Dr. said it is common with thrush, somehow fungi makes its way towards the throat too. There are also oral medications that your dr may prescribe for thrush too.

Hi Piper, Thanks for your reply. I am going to see a doctor about this because it's driving me crazy with throat pain. I'm thinking about seeing a dentist because I saw 3 different doctors and neither of them knew. It really sounds like thrush although it does not look like any of the pictures they show.
