White Coating on my Tongue?? - Dental Health Message Board

Hello, my name is Trista and I'm 17 years old. I have this white coating on my tongue even after I brush my teeth, I'm really scared I don't know what it is caused from! Can it be anything serious?? Some people that I've talked to have it's totally normal but I'm a hypochondriac and every little thing gets to me. Please help me!!!

Hi There

I had this problem and was informed by my doctor that it was thrush caused by taking antibiotics. Of course this might not be true in your case , i would seek a medical opinion.

Unfortunately, I have that too. I have had it about 8 years now. It is a yeast infection. Systemic yeast. Means its all inside the body. I can't get rid of mine. Your Doctor can give you a prescription of Nystaten (I'm not sure if spelled correctly - pronounced ny stat n). It made me throw up. Which, I guess is what it is supposed to do, ridding your body of the bad stuff, but I just couldn't handle it. You need to watch Doug Kaufman. He is a good Christian man, very educated in health concerns. If you don't want to take medicine from your Doctor, Doug Kaufman has a diet that you can follow and rid your body of it naturally. He comes on Cox Cable Channel 17 at 11:00 am. It is a live show. He also comes on in the middle of the night (reruns), but I'm not sure of that time). He is located somewhere in Texas if you want to try to get his phone number. Does it make you ill? Do you notice when you eat a lot of cheese or dairy products it gets worst? When mine is at it's worst I can't eat. I can't swallow one bite of food for days.

have you recently had a cold, or illness w/ fever, anything that might cause your mouth to be temporarily drier? A condition called "furred tongue" can cause those symptoms. if it's linked to a temporary illness, it will disappear on its own soon after the illness does.

if it persists, it's worth getting looked at, because it could be oral candidas(yeast) which would need treatment from a doctor.

First of all some tongue coating is completely normal. Everyone has some sort of coating on their tongue. It is likely not thrush unless you have been taking very strong antibiotics, or your immune system is suppressed. Buy a tongue scraper at the store and that should take care of it.

Princess you are going to make yourself very miserable if you worry about every little thing. See your dentist if it bothers you enough.
