He put me on antibiotics and said to continue with the lidocaine viscous, warm salt water rinses. He said I have acute necrotizing ulcerating gingivitis!

The next step after the antibioitics is having my entire mouth debrieded. He is going to have to get rid of the bad dead tissue and then go in after that is healed up with a cavitron. I have a long, long ways to go until things get better.

This is so, so painful. Nothing really helps. But it explains why I've felt so bad for so long and feel so run down.

After that we have to start looking at lots of fillings, deep decay in some places, heavy stain, which teeth I have a chance of keeping, what needs extracting ( if any ) and just take it one step at a time.

All of this is from just plain neglect. I could kick myself for letting this happen but no point in doing that. It wouldn't change anything.

I didn't think to ask him what involves debriedment but I'm pretty certain it won't be painless! I just hope they do it in small sections at a time and not my entire mouth at one time. I don't think I can handle having it all done at once.

I'm not looking forward to any of this.

Sounds like a manicure for the mouth. It probably won't be fun or cheap, hang in there!! Keep your mouth super clean to avoid the progression of these problems. Take it one step at a time. You'll be okay.

Your problem is very painful but treatable. Your dentist?/hygienist? is on the right track. They will do the debridement to remove toxins above the gumline and give your gums a chance to heal. Once this occurs then they can go below the gumline and remove plaque/tartar and it won't be so painful. It sounds like a terrible process but hang in there. You will definitely feel better when it is all done.

No use kicking yourself about neglect now but be happy instead that you have chosen to have it treated and will now take care of your teeth and mouth. I hope its not too painful for you and I am glad your getting it looked after. Take care.

Korney,

How did you know you had problems to this degree? Were you in pain? Were you bleeding? What was your mouth like that got you to finally see a dentist?

I've been to several for consults only (and some minor work) and I swear there's a lot going wrong, but none of them have said anything, I think because they haven't secured me as a patient yet, and I have this fear they're not telling me how bad it is.

Of course their crinkled nose and cluck-clucking sounds as they shake their heads looking into my mouth tells me soooommmething, just not "what" is going on.
