Listerine, Peroxide or Warm Salt Water - Dental Health Message Board

In your opinion or from experience which one of these would be best to use everyday for healthy gums and teeth? I heard so much about all of them, I am confused which one I should be using.

For overall healthy gums and teeth the best thing you can do is brush good 2xday and clean between the teeth daily. Also visit your dentist/hygienist regularly (every 6 months unless a more frequent recall is recommended by your hygienist). If you are interested in using a rinse to aid with healty gums, I would recommend Listerine or a generic brand antiseptic/antimicrobial. Listerine will also decrease amount of bacterial which will in turn help with decay. If you suffer from a dry mouth this rinse would not be a good choice. It contains a high percentage of alcohol.

I wouldn't use salt water unless I had an infection (even then) or if I was in pain, had soreness from work.

My Husband has perfect teeth and swears by Listerine.

I have dry mouth so it irritates my mouth tissues too much but otherwise I think it's pretty good. I also get cold sores so it causes me to break out, as does tooth paste.

I use peroxide.

I alternate. I do a few brushings with regular toothpaste and Listerine, then alternate with a brushing with baking soda followed by a peroxide rinse. I figure then I'm getting some of the benefits of both. I do not use salt water unless my gums are swollen or bleeding.
