Was looking into a powered toothbrush - Dental Health Message Board

Hey everyone. I've been meaning to buy an electric toothbrush for a while now but never really got around to it. Now... I'm getting around to it and am just looking for a little advice. I dont want to spend over $100... I really don't want to spend near that much either. I'm looking for something around $50, and I've pretty much narrowed it down. Either the Sonicare or Braun Oral-B models, any idea on which one is better? Cause I can't tell.

I prefer the Sonicare, myself. I think it does a superior job of cleaning teeth/gums. The price of them has come down...you can now buy one easily for under $100.00. I bought two through ****..if you're a good bidder, and patient, you can get a good bargain through that avenue...Deb

Both Sonicare and the 3D-excel brush from Braun Oral B have top ratings. The 3-D excel has been rated slightly superior in removing plaque (I heard this from an oral B representative) I own the 3-D and I love it, it was a life saver when I had braces. No complaints from patients where I work. I got my sister, brother, and mother to get one and they all love it. It has a two minute timer ( most people brush for about 28 seconds). Pulsations will turn off if you push too hard, it's a safety feature. I've never used the Sonicare, sorry I have no info on it. I think you'd be happy with either one.

I agree that both the sonicare and Oral-B 3D Excel are excellent toothbrushes. I have used them both and love them. If you are looking to spend a little less then I would definitely go for the Braun. It is an excellent toothbrush and in a recent study was found to be better than the sonic toothbrushes. The newest model of the Braun is the Excel and runs about $70.00 retail for solo model. Sonicare has come out with a new model that has not hit the stores yet. It has a smaller handle and toothbrush head and has been shown to be safer for the dentin. I would talk to your dental office to see if they sell auto toothbrushes. You may get a better deal. Also your hygienist would be the best one to ask which toothbrush would be best for you.
