Hi all. I have a complicated situation but I hope someone can help me out. About 3 months ago I woke up (after drinking an immense amount of coffee the previous day) with a metallic taste in my mouth and some numbness around my left lateral incisor. After a few days I received pain around my upper molar area and some pain in my jaw. My dentist saw nothing wrong and then pain went away for a few weeks. Throughout the past 3 months, I've had some recurring swelling/pain around my upper molar area/gumline. Nearly 6 weeks ago, I developed a swollen lymph node. It is mobile and does not appear to increase in size. However, it does come and go. I visited an endodontist today and he found nothing wrong with my upper teeth, however, he noticed something 'different' around my lower left 2nd premolar. He's not sure what it is but it is a "radio-opaque lesion" and appears to be "eating at my root." He wants me to see an oral surgeon. But in the meantime, here are the symptoms I'm experiencing:
- Swollen lymph node (left side of neck)
- Pain in left jaw
- Discomfort in the ear
(was experiencing yesterday...)
- Pain around upper teeth/ molar area
- Swelling of left cheek
No symptoms of...
- Gum bleeding, malaise, fever
Please post if you have been thru this situation and can offer some advice. I am 22 years old, a college student and am very worried. I have midterms this week but can not study because I'm concerned I may have an untreatable/complicated condition. Although the pain is not excruciating, it is very uncomfortable...and my left ear feels like I'm in high altitudes...when I'm actually not. Thank you so much for your time.
hey! listen, i know you posted this like 2 months ago, but i only registered today and i was checking all the posts out. anyway, i have the same problem as you. the surgeon put me on antibiotics for a week (the prognosis was that i needed a apicoectomy, a procedure that is basically an upsidedown root canal) and the pain went away. on the day of my scheduled surgery, he took another xray, pressed around the root canaled tooth to check for pain (none), and i left really relieved bcuz he said it looked fine- come back if the pain started again. so it did. now i gotta call him tomorrow... but that's another story. so i really want to know what happened with you and how things turned out! can you post a message to me back, or email me or something? ok thanks, bye
No kidding!? How did you come to that conclusion? Did you see a doctor? What type? Have you discovered anything that helps improve it? I am really interested in how TMJ caused those symptoms that sounded so much like an abscess. What about the x-ray that showed the circle around the root of your tooth... what was that?
Yeah, I saw many many doctors- 2 periodontists, 2 endodontists, 2 oral surgeons, 3 TMJ specialists, 1 family physician, 2 radiologists (they're friends of mine) and a dentist. They all pointed me in the direction of the TMJ specialists. After having an MRI and tomos done, they found I had bilateral displaced discs, bone breakdown of the condulars and an osteophyte on my left condyle. I also have a loss of curvature in my neck and a very very small airway. All these problems presented themselves in the symptoms I mentioned in my first post.
As for a temporary remedy, I am on splint therapy and take the max amount of advil/day. I have additional symptoms to what I have above. I would list them but it would take forever. I guess the worst would be the vertigo/dizziness.
