Has anyone had a permanent tooth pulled as part of their orthodontic treatment? - Dental Health Message Board

Just wondered if anyone has had a permanent tooth pulled as part of orthodontic treatment. Which tooth (or teeth) was pulled? Why did the orthodontist want it pulled? Are you happy with your orthodontist results?

Yes, i had 4 of my premolars taken out when i was 10 years old (one from each quadrant). After about 6 months the spaces closed in because my teeth were so over-crowded. it worked a treat, i was lucky that they moved on their own, and my teeth straightened out on their own, didn't need braces thankfully). i am very happy with the result. however now my wisdom teeth have come through they're all squashed up again!!! in fact the wisdom teeth have impacted. so who knows where i go from here! (altho im a dental student so i spose im in the right place at uni to finding out what to do next)

I had my wisdom teeth pulled before I got my braces which was many years ago but it worked out good.

My orthodontist said I needed teeth pulled, but due to a blood disorder the doctors had yet to diagnose, he went ahead and did the braces without them. Over three years in breces and another three in retainers, the bottom teeth shifted back almost as bad as they were before the braces. The top are still straight, but the overbite does seem to have come back somewhat. If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely have the teeth removed.

They can recommend that if the teeth are crowded.

They know what they are talking about, but just use common sense. If yo feel comfortable with loosing those teeth, then its probably OK.

They wanted to pull my wifes upper canine (she already lost one as a child). We felt it was a valuable tooth and the others are so small, we have not yet had braces.

We might just skip it. She looks good to me.
