Pulling a molar and leaving space empty? - Dental Health Message Board

Have any of you had a molar pulled and left the space empty? What if it isn't the last molar, and it would leave an empty space between 2 teeth?

Did your teeth shift over the years? Did the tooth above or below it end up having problems?

I don't know the answer to your question, but hopefully someone will answer. Is this the tooth you had the apico done on?

I've just had one of my bottom molars pulled last week. I broke it about four months ago and a couple of weeks ago it started hurting real bad. It kept me up at night throbbing. My options were to have it pulled or have it capped which after a root canal would cost about $1,000.00 dollars. I decided to get it pulled which only cost $195.00. It wasn't my last tooth, but next to the last tooth. I went to the best oral surgeon around here and I also asked him about the other teeth shifting. He said if they did it would be way in the future and it would be so gradual it wouldn't be noticed. It would only be the last, (furtherest back) tooth that would be affected and it my rotate in a little. He said nothing to worry about at all. I am so glad I got it pulled, I'm finally pain free. Some years ago I had to remove a molar (the third counting from the last tooth). The space left by the extraction was completely covered by the two last teeth that shifted, taking the place of the extracted tooth.
This is causing me some troubles, since I want to put braces, and I need to extract the equivalent tooth, from the other side, in order to compensate the lost space.
I would like to know if it's possible to wear a space regainer in order to open the lost space (wich is very little), and then put a "fake" tooth in it's place, so i can avoid another extraction.

Yes, I think it is that same tooth. Over the weekend I started to feel pain in that tooth when eating/drinking anything hot/warm. That was the first symptom I had when the whole abscess thing was discovered 2 months ago.

So I am going back to the endo on Wed to have the tooth/apico area checked and see what is going on. Basically I am trying to decide what to do if it is that same tooth. I am so tired of this thing giving me problems.... :-( I would gladly pay any amount if I knew it would be the cure to my troubles, but I don't want to spend a fortune and go thru an eternity of waiting if I am going to end up pulling it anyways.

How is your treated tooth holding up, by the way?
