Unhappy HELP! I am in so much pain!!!!

I am ready to just have every single tooth pulled out of my mouth! The ironic thing is my teeth were fine until I went to the dentist!! We got dental ins. and I decided to go in and have my dental work done, 3 weeks ago. I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled, a bunch of cavities filled, a cleaning, and a crown put on one of my teeth. Ever since I have been in pure agony! My mouth hurts, all my teeth hurt, I have pounding headaches, and I am constantly taking pain medication and Anbesol. I think this dentist screwed up my mouth! Is this normal??? This morning I woke up and it felt like my entire jaw and mouth were pulsating and throbbing with pain. I also get stabbing sensitivity sensations both in my upper and lower teeth, at various times (has nothing to do with when I eat or what I eat, hot or cold, this happens even when I wake up in the morning). I can't take this anymore. I was in tears this morning, after only sleeping 3 hours because of the pain.

I chose this dentist from my insurance plan. He was the only one in my area not booked months in advance and was able to get me right in because he's new to my city. He's been in dentistry for 3 years. What I found odd is he would not pull my wisdom teeth~ he referred me to another dentist to do that, but he did everything else. Another odd thing is one of my teeth that had a cavity he said might need a root canal. This tooth did not give me any pain before seeing him and it was not dead, I could still feel. He filled the cavity and later said he needed to put a crown on it because he was afraid the tooth would break. So he put a crown on it and ever since this tooth also hurts, as well as all the rest.

I don't think this is normal to have this much pain, 3 weeks later, is it? For my entire mouth to be nothing but pain? Shouldn't the pain be lessening? And why do I get these stabbing sensitivity sensations out of the blue?

I swear I am NEVER getting dental work done ever again! I will sooner let my teeth rot and fall out before I let another dentist come near them. My mouth was fine before I had all this work done. PLEASE HELP~ if you have any advice or any past experience with this. Will this go away? Should I go pay to see another dentist to see if they can tell if this first one screwed up? I'm almost $1100 in debt over all this work and all I've got to show for it is a world of pain!

A couple years ago I went to the dentist and had alot of work done over a 2 week period. I was in so much pain for weeks aftertward. My only guess was I had to much done in such little time or the Dentist did something to a nerve or I had some sort of infection causing all the pain.

It finally did go away. If you do not start feeling better I would recomend going to another dentist. Maybe you just need antibiotics a infection can cause terrible pain.

I remember that terrible throbbing pain and awfull headaches you are describing. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get some pain relief real soon.

In the past 2 weeks I have had a cleaning, root canal, and 2 fillings (tried fitting it all in before I switch jobs and lose my insurance for a while). I can relate to the sore jaw and headaches. I've had a throbbing pain in my jaw that has woken me from a sound sleep and some pretty bad headaches as well. I've talked to my dentist about this because some of the pain started before all my dental work was over. He said that its probably just from having so many things done all at once. He tried to do extra little things like support my jaw and allow me breaks in the middle of drilling just to make things easier on me. The pain should go away with time. Your poor mouth has been through a lot of trauma recently. I'm surprised that they didn't space things out more for you. All of my work was crammed together like that because I asked for it to be that way.

As for being sent to another dentist for your wisdom teeth, that is normal. I was sent to a dental surgeon to have mine removed. 2 of mine were impacted and on a weird angle so it was too difficult for my regular dentist to remove them in his office. I didn't think that I needed a root canal either because my tooth felt fine, but the cavity was quite deep and I may have to have jaw surgery in a couple months depending on how the infection clears up (I really had no clue that it had gotten that bad!!)

It may be helpful to contact your dentist to see if there is anything more you can do for the pain.

Hang in there

If your looking for a safe and affective way of omitting the pain, ask the pharmacy if they have Clove Oil. They might be able to order it. It only takes a drop or two and the pain is gone. It worked for me. I had teeth pulled, filled, root canels, you name it, I had it done. I thought that after all that, the pain would go away. Then I tried a dab of clove oil, Bingo!!!. The pain faded so I could sleep and eat without gut wrenching pain. Try it, you might just be able to sleep easy.

AZmom, I just read your story and I thought I was reading something I had written!! Our stories are so similiar.

4 mos ago I went in becuz a tooth was hurting, it needed a crown and root canal. SInce then I have had about 8 cavities filled, 2 wisdom teeth extracted and 2 more root canals. I am in pain almost every single day. I have 2 kids also, who I can barely put up with because of all this pain. My pain is in all different teeth it just comes and goes also, its not caused by eating or hot or cold or anything either.

From doing research and finding these boards I have figured out (now with help from dentist also) that my bite is off (the way your teeth come together). It causes me to clench my teeth, and I have also developed tmj. My jaw clicks and pops when I open wide, my jaw aches, sometimes I am dizzy and have headaches.

Sometimes when you get crowns or cavities filled it can throw off the way that your teeth usually come together which then creates a whole bunch of problems. My teeth pain is horrible, I cry everday. I need a procedure done (neuromuscular dentistry) which will allow my jaw to relax so that my bite can be fixed I will also need to wear an orthotic device which all costs $1600. I can't afford it now beccuz I have already spent about $6000 getting all the work done. Visit the tmj site you might also find some answers there. In the meantime, advil 3-4 try that it sometimes help but you need to go to your dentist and explain what is happening, becuz it is definetly your bite that is creating all this pain in your teeth.

I'm so sorry, I understand completely. some days I don't even eat because I am afraid to chew. Sorry to go on and on just wanted to share some background with you, keep me posted, if you have any questions just let me know, I am on this site all the time

Jennifer
